Construction begins on the 28.5 km metro loop connecting Millennium City Centre to Cyber City.
Enquire NowGurugram's long-awaited metro expansion has moved from paper to pillars. Civil construction is actively underway on Phase 1 of Gurugram's own metro: the 15.2 km stretch from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, with over 900 pillars being cast. The project, which had been in planning stages since 2022, finally saw ground-level activity accelerate through late 2025 and into 2026.
The full scope of the corridor is significant. The full project is a 28.5 km elevated loop with 27 stations at Rs 5,452.72 crore, running from Millennium City Centre through Old Gurugram to Cyber City, with a 1.85 km spur from Basai Village to Sector 101 on the Dwarka Expressway. This alignment is designed to finally bridge one of Gurugram's most persistent urban divides. The new metro rail link will connect Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, bridging the gap between New Gurugram and Old Gurugram.
The project is being executed by a dedicated agency set up for this purpose. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL), a joint venture company of the Government of India and Government of Haryana with 50:50 equity, is working to develop a metro rail corridor in Gurugram from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City. On the ground, contractors have already made visible progress. The contract went to a Dilip Buildcon and RBL joint venture. Geotechnical investigations were completed for the first stretch, the civil contract was awarded to a Dilip Buildcon and RBL joint venture, and over 900 pillars are being cast, with foundation work visible around Sector 45 and Subhash Chowk.
The project is also progressing into Old Gurugram, where land and utility clearances are more complex. The Old Gurugram Metro project is being rolled out in phases. In the first phase, a metro line will be developed from Millennium City Centre metro station to Sector 9, for which tenders have already been awarded. Surveys for the extended stretch are also underway. On Monday (5 January), authorities carried out a detailed land survey along the stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. A joint team from the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) reached the site around late morning to inspect and measure the proposed alignment.
Meanwhile, the second half of the loop is catching up on the tendering front. Phase 2 (Sector 9 to Cyber City) went to tender in early 2026, with GMRL having submitted a roughly Rs 2,800 crore World Bank loan proposal covering about 60 percent of that phase's cost. One related component has been decoupled to avoid delays: as of February 24, 2026, the 1.8 km spur to the Gurgaon Railway Station has been put on hold as a combined project. The World Bank and GMRL are now treating it as a separate project to avoid delaying the main corridor's 2027 completion target. Commuters heading to the railway station will have interim options. Connectivity to the station will initially be via a skywalk or feeder buses.
The timeline for residents and commuters is becoming clearer. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2027. Trial runs for Phase 1 are tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2027. Once operational, the new line will plug directly into the existing metro network. Millennium City Centre (formerly HUDA City Centre) will serve as a major interchange point connecting the new Gurgaon loop with the Delhi Metro Yellow Line.
The scale of ridership expected underscores why this corridor matters. Gurugram has a population of approximately 25 lakh people, and daily ridership on the new line is expected to be 5.34 lakh by 2026, 7.26 lakh by 2031, 8.81 lakh by 2041, and 10.70 lakh by 2051. For a city long criticised for its traffic-choked NH-48 and disconnected sectors, this is being viewed as a structural fix. By linking New and Old Gurgaon, the project seeks to greatly increase urban mobility by lowering the traffic and travel time commuters spend on travelling.
For homebuyers, the real estate implications are already being discussed by analysts tracking the corridor. Industry estimates suggest property values may rise by 15% to 20% in locations along the new metro corridor. Established DLF addresses on Golf Course Road and Golf Course Extension Road, along with newer developments near Sectors 76-77 and the Dwarka Expressway belt, sit close to stations planned along this loop, adding a fresh connectivity trigger to neighbourhoods that were already among Gurugram's most sought-after.
