India's first metro service in Madhya Pradesh begins operations.
Enquire NowPrime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the first section of the Super Priority Corridor of the Indore Yellow Metro Line on 31 May 2025, during an official visit to the state of Madhya Pradesh. Commercial transport services commenced on 1 June 2025 along the first 6 km stretch of the line, running from Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Terminal to Veerangana Jhalkari Bai Station, providing access through five new elevated stations. This marked the arrival of rapid urban transit to Madhya Pradesh and positioned Indore as a modern, connected city.
The line is operated by Alstom-built Movia metro trains, featuring the latest generation of CBTC signalling systems to ensure safe and reliable service. The first trainset was produced in a record time of 14.5 months from the issuance of the Notice to Proceed (NTP), and was delivered to Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) in August 2023. The infrastructure reflects global standards and represents India's growing capability in metro rail manufacturing.
Why the May 2025 launch mattered for homebuyers and investors: Over six million residents of the city are expected to benefit directly and indirectly from the Indore Metro project. The Indore Metro project has improved the city's sentiment for long-term real estate prospects. The metro project and the smart city mission have encouraged investors to look into commercial developments as well. The initial response was strong—the line carried 50,000 passengers during its first three days of operation with free travel available to passengers until June 7.
Line 3's ring provides multiple nodes where transit-oriented development can flourish — residential projects, retail, offices, and hospitality will all benefit from improved footfall and accessibility. Already Indore's premium IT and commercial spine, the Super Corridor stands to gain even more as Metro stations reduce travel friction for professionals and make premium projects more attractive to buyers and corporates. Real estate stakeholders quickly recognized that metro-linked locations would command premium valuations as urban migration accelerated.
The project's broader scale reflects India's infrastructure push. The project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹7,500 crore. The Super Priority Corridor alone accounts for approximately ₹1,520 crore of the total project cost. This investment underscores government commitment to sustainable urban mobility. Looking ahead, the priority corridor-2 from Super Corridor 2 to Radisson Square was inaugurated on 5 September 2026 with regular service starting on 6 September 2026. The second phase expansion brings the metro even closer to high-density residential and commercial zones, validating early investor confidence.
